The Admirable American for this week is an American Indian, male, Olympic athlete. Hopi Indian Lewis Tewanima represented the United States finishing 9th in the Olympic marathon in the 1908, and won a silver medal in the 1912. In that same year he set the U.S. record for the fastest 10,000 meter race. US Track and Field honored Tewanima as the all-time best US Olympic marathoner in 1957.  Each year the Hopi reservation at Second Mesa in Arizona hosts races honoring Tewanima.
