Veteran's Day Announcement:
As Military.com reminds us:
“Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for you, our veterans.”
Veterans Day began as a reflection on the heroism of those who died in service to our country. Originally called Armistice Day, it was observed on November 11—the anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1954, it was renamed Veterans Day to honor all who have served in every conflict since.
This day reminds us that our freedoms and opportunities do not come without sacrifice. They are safeguarded by courageous individuals who serve in our Armed Forces, and today we say “thank you” to all who have served to protect our way of life.
Here at Hononegah, we are proud to honor our veterans and active service members. Our Hononegah Military Wall, dedicated to graduates who are currently serving, reminds us each day of their commitment. These are familiar faces—fellow Hononegah students who once walked these halls and chose to dedicate themselves to a greater cause.
We also honor the memory of SPC Brandon Jacob Rowe, a 2000 Hononegah graduate who made the ultimate sacrifice on March 3, 2003, in Al Hillah, Iraq. SPC Rowe’s service and courage represent the commitment we recognize and remember today.
Students and staff, as you pass by the Military Wall, please pause and reflect on the faces of those who have served. Let their dedication and sacrifice remind us of the freedoms we enjoy and the gratitude we owe.
As we commemorate Veterans Day, let us keep these men and women in our thoughts during our moment of silence and as we recite the Pledge of Allegiance with Mrs. Schafner.
Thank you for your attention, Hononegah. To our soldiers—past, present, and future—we owe you our thanks, and we owe you our freedom.
