Essay #1

Option #1: Challenging

It has been said that making a journey or taking a trip is sometimes more important than actually reaching one’s destination.

Through an analysis of the major archetypes found only in The Tale of the Sangreal, explain how this statement applies to the Knights of the Round Table and their quest for the Holy Grail.

What lessons does the story seem to be teaching and how are these lessons communicated by the story's archetypal motifs?

Option #2: Challenging

At various times throughout the stories we have read, the knights come into contact with certain holy men, hermits, or recluses who offer them advice or help them interpret their dreams, visions, and other experiences.

Discuss these encounters as archetypal experiences.  Explain what the reader comes to learn about the religious values of the Middle Ages as these religious representatives interpret the symbolic dreams, visions, and experiences of individual knights throughout these stories.
