Emergency Procedures

ALL CLEAR
Indicates that the emergency situation has ended and the school day will resume as normal.


HOLD
Indicates a potentially dangerous situation exists in the vicinity of Hononegah. A HOLD will be called as a precautionary measure to keep students and staff safe. During a HOLD the educational process will continue as normal.

A HOLD will end when a ALL CLEAR is announced over the intercom system; parents will receive a follow-up message indicating the HOLD has ended, and the dangerous situation no longer exists.

In an effort to allow First Responders to do their job and for safety reasons, please do not call or come to the school. Administration will keep you informed as information becomes available

Because there is limited cell service in the building, you may not be able to reach your child and your child may not be able to reach you during an emergency situation. 


ALICE SITUATION ***

Indicates a very serious or dangerous situation exists.

In an effort to allow First Responders to do their job and for safety reasons, please do not call or come to the school. Administration will keep you informed as information becomes available through the emergency notification system.

ALICE is a NON-SEQUENTIAL response to an emergency situation, Staff and students can choose which step should be applied based on the on-going information received.

A = Alert: upon hearing the ALERT, make a decision to ACT based on what you are hearing and the information you are receiving via PA, texts, digital signage in the hallway, web, and school messenger.

L = Lockdown: Based on the alert information you have received, if in the event of a clear and present danger, an intruder within close proximity to you inside the school,LOCKDOWN. The door to the room you are in should be closed and locked. Block and barricade all entrances to the room, making it harder to become a target.

I = Inform: As much real time information will be provided to teachers, staff, and students as frequently as possible by all means possible. Use this information to make decisions as to the best option for survival. Remember to also continue to use your senses to keep yourself informed.

C = Counter: Use simple, proactive techniques to interfere with and interrupt the actions of an active shooter, should the intruder enter your room, or you encounter one. I.E., throw books, staplers, papers, chairs, desk, anything. Scream, run in a zig-zag formation, create disruptive acts and get out of the room. Make it harder for an intruder to accomplish his or her actions through whatever disruptive actions as necessary. You must commit to your actions to ensure survivability.

E = Evacuate: Evacuation is the best option if possible. By providing as much real-time information regarding the threat or emergency, staff and students will be able to make the best decisions regarding getting out. Evacuate to the established rally points.

EVACUATION

Indicates a situation has occurred that requires the evacuation of the building to a staging area near the school (i.e. fire).  During an evacuation, teachers ensure all students are out of their classrooms and instruct students to proceed to the pre-assigned staging area outside of the building.  As the status of the situation changes, parents will receive information in a follow-up message(s).

In an effort to allow First Responders to do their job and for safety reasons, please do not call or come to the school. Administration will keep you informed as information becomes available.


REUNIFICATION

Indicates a situation has occurred that requires the evacuation of the building and the need to transport students to a safe place away from school. During a reunification emergency, students are evacuated from the school and then transported to a second staging area away from the school.

Students will be transported to either Stephen Mack Middle School or Roscoe Middle School for reunification with parents/guardians. Parents/guardians will receive notification indicating the reunification location.

Only immediate family who are documented in the school data system will be allowed to pick up students at the designated sites. A photo ID will be required to pick up your child.

Do not attempt to come to Hononegah High School to get your child.


SHELTER IN PLACE

Shelter in Place indicates a situation exists for students to take shelter in a safe location inside the building (i.e. tornado).  As the status of the situation changes, parents will receive information in a follow-up message(s).
